Ho Chi Minh City Vocational College (HCMC-VC) was formerly known as Ho Chi Minh City Technical Workers School, established under Decision No. 5973/QĐ-UB-VX dated October 8, 1999, by the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City. The school's core mission is to provide high-quality technical workforce training to meet the human resource demands of the city and regional socio-economic development.

On January 31, 2007, the Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs officially upgraded the institution to Ho Chi Minh City Vocational College under Decision No. 196/QĐ-BLĐTBXH.

In February 2009, the college was accredited for meeting national vocational education quality standards and selected as a key investment institution under the National Target Program until 2020. In 2013, the college passed its second round of quality assessment and was evaluated at Level 3 – the highest accreditation level – by the General Department of Vocational Education and Training.

In October 2020, the college completed its third institutional quality assessment and was officially recognized as meeting vocational education quality standards under Decision No. 109/QĐ-KĐGDVN dated December 25, 2020. Simultaneously, its Metal Cutting (CNC Machining) college-level training program was also recognized under Decision No. 110/QĐ-KĐGDVN for meeting the standards of program-level quality accreditation.

The college is among a select group of institutions supported under the Prime Minister’s Project for Developing High-Quality Vocational Colleges, as approved by Decision No. 761/QĐ-TTg dated May 23, 2014, and its amendments in Decision No. 1363/QĐ-TTg dated October 11, 2019. Under Decision No. 1769/QĐ-LĐTBXH dated November 25, 2019, the college was approved to offer six key occupations, including:

  • 3 international-level occupations: Software Application (Information Technology), Industrial Electronics, and Industrial Electrical Installation & Control;
  • 2 regional-level occupations: Metal Cutting and Refrigeration & Air Conditioning;
  • 1 national-level occupation: Industrial Electricity.

Over the past 23 years of development, the college has consistently fulfilled its assigned missions and achieved numerous recognitions, including:

  • Multiple Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (1999–2016);
  • The Third-Class Labor Medal awarded by the President of Vietnam (Decision No. 1408/QĐ-CTN, September 25, 2009);
  • The title of Excellent Labor Collective for the academic year 2016–2017 (Decision No. 5648/QĐ-UBND, October 24, 2017);
  • The Traditional Flag of Ho Chi Minh City on the 20th anniversary of the college’s founding (Decision No. 4295/QĐ-UBND, October 4, 2019);
  • Commendations from the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs for outstanding performance in the academic years 2019–2020 and 2020–2021;
  • A Certificate of Merit from the Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs for excellence in vocational education (Decision No. 60/QĐ-LĐTBXH, January 15, 2020).

In addition, the college has earned remarkable achievements in national-level vocational competitions:

  • 2016: Multiple students and teams won awards in the National Competition for Homemade Training Equipment and the City-Level Skills Competition.
  • 2018: Awards included 1 First Prize, 3 Second Prizes, and various others at the City-Level Skills Competition; 1 First Prize and 2 Consolation Prizes at the 10th National Skills Competition.
  • 2019: 1 Second Prize (3D Printer & Laser Engraver Model), 1 First Prize and 1 Consolation Prize for innovations in training equipment at both city and national levels.
  • 2020: 3 students received Excellent Skills Certificates at the 11th National Skills Competition.
  • 2021: 1 Second Prize at the National Teaching Competition for Vocational Instructors, recognized by the Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (Decision No. 1281/QĐ-LĐTBXH); and 1 Consolation Prize from the General Department of Vocational Education and Training (Decision No. 546/QĐ-TCGDNN).
  • 2022: A Third Prize awarded for a plastic mold press model at the National Training Equipment Innovation Competition (Decision No. 963/QĐ-LĐTBXH).
